How We Harvest Our Honey: From Hive to Jar

How We Harvest Our Honey: From Hive to Jar

Written by KUHOF

Harvesting honey is both an art and a science, requiring patience, care, and respect for the bees. At our honey farm in Kuwait, we follow a natural and ethical approach to ensure that every jar of honey reflects purity, quality, and the hard work of our bees. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we harvest our honey—from hive to jar.

1. Monitoring the Hives

We regularly inspect our beehives to check the health of the colony, the presence of the queen bee, and the readiness of honeycombs. Only when the honeycomb cells are fully capped with wax do we begin the harvest.

2. Using Natural Methods to Calm the Bees

To avoid harming the bees, we use natural smoke to gently calm them before opening the hive. This helps us work safely and efficiently while disturbing the bees as little as possible.

3. Removing the Honeycombs

Once the bees are calm, we carefully remove the frames filled with honey. Each frame is handled with care to preserve its structure and to avoid stressing the colony.

4. Extracting the Honey

The capped honeycomb is taken to our extraction area, where we uncap the wax using special tools. The frames are then placed in a honey extractor, a centrifuge that spins out the honey without damaging the comb.

5. Filtering Gently and Bottling

Our honey is gently filtered to remove large bits of wax, but we don’t ultra-filter it or pasteurize it. That means you still get the natural pollens and powerful properties raw honey is known for. Afterward, the honey is poured into sterilized jars, labeled, and sealed for freshness.

6. Sustainable Practices

We always leave enough honey in the hives for the bees to feed on. Our goal is to support healthy bee populations and ensure long-term sustainability.
